In the United States economic today the group health insurance carrier is a major contributor to the economy and therefore plays a vital role in that economy. As a result these group health insurance carriers are very supportive of politicians that protect their interests and are willing to vote against any form of legislation that involves government involvement in health care. This is not good for the individual citizen however, who often lacks such coverage as group health insurance and has no way to attain it.
Is there an alternative to universal family health insurance for all families regardless of class or ability to pay? Actually the only alternative is to provide family health insurance through employers but this is failing because of the increasing costs of such coverage making it impossible for employers to maintain the coverage for their employees even if they want to. On top of that the family health insurance benefits are dropping as costs rise. Some sort of supplement is needed and the only feasible source for something like this will have to be support from the government.
